A recently published study, led by Elisabeth Pando and Teresa Macarulla, demonstrates that tissue obtained through diagnostic endoscopic biopsy for pancreatic cancer can also be used to perform molecular analyses using next-generation sequencing (NGS). In 74% of patients, it was possible to analyze the genomic profile using residual tissue from this biopsy, without the need for additional biopsies.
This information makes it possible to detect tumor mutations at an early stage and identify potential therapeutic targets, facilitating access to targeted therapies and personalized clinical trials. This represents another step toward precision medicine for pancreatic cancer. The study was published in the journal *Endoscopic Ultrasound*.
